the bond of perfection : why christians cannot walk alone.

The Bond of Perfection
In The Bond of Perfection, Pastor Goke teaches that spiritual life is not meant to be lived in isolation. Drawing from Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 and Acts 2:41-47, he highlights the power of fellowship, unity, and shared life within the church. When believers walk together in love and accountability, they experience corporate grace, commanded blessings, and strengthened faith.

The Christian life was never designed to be lived alone.

In this week’s message, Pastor Goke emphasised the spiritual significance of gathering as the body of Christ. The church is described in Scripture as a body because believers are meant to function together, supporting and strengthening one another.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 explains the wisdom of community: two are better than one because they can lift each other when one falls. A cord of three strands is not easily broken. This principle runs throughout the Bible. David was surrounded by mighty men. Moses worked alongside trusted leaders. Even Jesus did not minister alone but with disciples.

Isolation is not spiritual strength – often it is pride.

The early church in Acts 2:41-47 shows us what healthy church life looks like. The believers continued steadfastly in four things: doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayers. Their unity created an atmosphere where miracles occurred and people were drawn to the faith.

Where unity exists, God releases blessing. Psalm 133:3 declares that it is in the place of unity that the Lord commands His blessing.

There is also such a thing as corporate favour. When believers gather, the grace upon the house becomes accessible to everyone present. Strength flows through the body.

The early church also understood that relationships require sharing. Acts 4:32 describes believers who were of one heart and soul, willingly sharing what they had with one another. Their fellowship was practical, not merely theoretical.

Breaking bread, therefore, is not limited to meals. It includes supporting brethren in times of need. God blesses individuals so they can become channels of blessing to others.

Pastor Goke shared a personal story of choosing to overlook an offence from another minister to preserve the unity of the church. In that moment, he sensed God’s approval. Unity is precious to God because the church is the bride of Christ.

Unity does not eliminate conflict, but Scripture gives guidance on handling it. Matthew 18:15-17 outlines a process for resolving disagreements privately and responsibly, protecting the integrity of the community.

There is strength in collective unity. Genesis 11:6 demonstrates that when people are united, their combined effort becomes powerful.

The message concluded with a simple reminder: believers must be present and engaged in the life of the church. When we walk together, pray together, and care for one another, we experience the true power of the body of Christ.
