What truly holds the Church together?
Not structure. Not activity. Not even gifting.
Sunday’s message centres on a deeper truth: love is the bond of perfection.
Pastor Goke taught that unity in the Church produces real spiritual outcomes. When believers walk in oneness, there is territorial advantage, the flow of signs and wonders, and favour with God and men (Acts 2:47).
The early Church demonstrated this clearly. In Acts 2:41-47, their unity and shared life created an atmosphere where people were drawn in daily. Unity itself became a form of evangelism.
At the heart of that unity was sharing. No one lacked because everyone gave. But sharing alone is not enough – the posture behind it matters.
Scripture instructs us:
“Let all your things be done with charity.” (1 Corinthians 16:14)
“Above all these things put on love…” (Colossians 3:13-15)
Without love, even the right actions lose their value.
And this love is not human effort – it is received:
“We love Him because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)
As believers press into God, they are rooted and grounded in love (Ephesians 3:14-19), and that love becomes the foundation of their lives.
The Church in Corinth is a sobering example. They operated in powerful spiritual gifts, yet Paul had to remind them:
Gifts without love are meaningless (1 Corinthians 12:31 – 13:3)
You can speak, give, and serve – yet gain nothing without love.
This is because love is the only thing that endures.
It bears all things
It forgives
It does not fail (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
Unforgiveness, offence, and division are some of the greatest threats to unity. But love overcomes them all.
In the end, love is not optional. It is the standard.
“Above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.” (Colossians 3:14)
Because when everything else fades – love remains.
