In our ongoing series How Men Move God, we have explored intimacy, faith, sacrifice, giving, and heritage. This week, the focus shifts to another vital principle: honour.
Honour is not optional in the Kingdom. It is a spiritual law. Scripture presents honour as weight — what carries value and significance before God. Where honour exists, favour flows naturally.
Many believers fail to benefit from relationships, instructions, and spiritual coverings because honour has been reduced to familiarity. Yet Scripture is clear: men are equal by creation, but not by grace. Some people, through their walk with God, have become carriers of spiritual weight. Recognising that weight is honour.
The first expression of honour is vertical — honouring God. Malachi 1:1–9 reveals God’s displeasure with dishonour, especially when worship becomes careless. Romans 12:1 brings honour into everyday life by calling believers to present their bodies as living sacrifices. Honour God in speech, conduct, and private choices.
Jesus affirmed honour publicly when a woman poured oil on Him (Mark 14:3–9). Honour invites divine remembrance.
The vertical dimension also includes honouring those placed above us. Scripture commands honour based on divine order, not personal opinion (1 Timothy 5:17–18; 1 Thessalonians 5:12–13). Ruth’s honour for Naomi positioned her in the lineage of Christ. The widow’s honour for Elijah preserved her household (Ruth 1; 1 Kings 17:7–14). Honour for parents carries the promise of long life (Exodus 20:12).
The horizontal dimension broadens the scope: honour all people (1 Peter 2:13–17). No one is exempt. Overfamiliarity often breeds dishonour, cutting people off from graces they once enjoyed. The prayers and presence of peers matter; faithful relationships deserve weight.
Dishonour is dangerous. It opens doors for affliction and limitation. Scripture shows that dishonour can even lead to death. Satan exploits dishonour, but honour closes that door firmly.
Honour is how men move God — and how they preserve access to what God has already released.
