How Men Limit God (Part 2): Breaking Mental Barriers to Divine Possibilities

How Men Limit God, 2
When your mind is small, even a big God feels far. In Part 2 of “How Men Limit God,” we explore how limited thinking, poor spiritual discipline, and a small vision can hinder divine possibilities. Learn how to break free and align your mind with God’s limitless power.

In John 5:1-7, we encounter a man by the pool of Bethesda, lying there for 38 years. The healing protocol was clear — only the first person to enter the stirred water would be healed. So he waited. And waited. When Jesus arrived and asked a simple question — “Do you want to be healed?” — instead of saying “yes,” the man began explaining why it hadn’t happened yet.

Like him, we often do the same. We explain away the promise. We say things like, “That’s just how I am,” or “That’s how it is in my family.” Instead of accepting God’s invitation to change, we defend the status quo. This mindset is one of the ways we limit God.

The truth is: the human mind is naturally limited. But through the Spirit, that limitation can be broken. The laws of physics themselves are defied in the spiritual realm — even witches operate beyond natural barriers. So why do believers, full of divine power, keep turning back at the sight of a wall?

God’s power is not limited — our thinking is. And this affects our careers, ministries, relationships, and personal growth. Last Sunday, Rev. Ope shared how he initially hesitated on a prophetic instruction to move into a bigger hall. The instruction came in December, but it wasn’t until months later that the need became obvious — a delay caused by limited perspective.

Many of us have unfulfilled prophetic words hanging over our lives. Not because God hasn’t spoken, but because our minds have capped what we’re willing to believe. Romans 12:2 calls us to renew our minds — a full reformation of thought — because transformation begins with thought. God can’t build on a mind that won’t be expanded.

This is why meditation is vital. Rev. Ope defined it for us: “A spiritual discipline of deep intentional contemplation on God’s truth, law, and character, focusing on internalising God’s Word to grow in faith and obedience. It is a reflective and thoughtful process of filling the mind with divine truths rather than emptying it.”

When we don’t guard our mouths, we cancel our own prayers. When fear colours our confessions, we reinforce negative reports instead of aligning with divine reality (Philippians 4:8).

Faith is not denial — it’s choosing to focus on God’s promise over our current reality. The difference between those walking in dominion and those stuck in cycles is often their mindset. And yes, it’s that serious. Your mindset can sabotage your prophecy.

If you don’t grow, read, or seek to expand your thinking, you’ll keep hitting the same ceilings. If you’re in a workplace and only understand your role — not the business — you’ve already limited your usefulness. When your salary becomes your mindset, you’ll never see beyond it.

Stop waiting for heaven to move when God is waiting for you to expand your mind. Let His Word stretch you. Feed your spirit. Think bigger. Because until your mindset matches your prayers, your breakthroughs may remain delayed.
